When a woman is interested in sexual relations with a man, but first wants to make sure he’s not HIV + (or “positive” or “sick” as Ugandans term it) she needs to tell him to meet her at a random, undisclosed clinic to be tested. The reason it has to be undisclosed is that if the guy knows where it is beforehand he can actually bribe the doctor to tell the woman he’s HIV free when, in fact, he has the disease.
And I was struck at how disgustingly horrible and wrong that is. These “doctors” know that when they tell a woman her man is HIV negative, when he is in fact HIV positive, they are giving the woman a death sentence. All for some cheesy bribe? What cowards and lowlife’s.
