Halong Bay - cancelled

We were picked up by our Halong Bay transport at 7:45 AM. We were traveling on the outer banks of Hanoi when our driver pulled over and spoke with someone on his cell phone. He hung up and turned around.
"The cruise has been cancelled. Typhoon Nalgae is too dangerous."

Stephen and I are pretty crushed. Halong Bay was arguably the highlight of our trip and I doubt we'll ever have the opportunity to see it again.

A Belgian lady in front of us said that they are super cautious nowadays because a few years ago a bunch of people were killed when their boat was on the water when a typhoon hit. I did some research and saw that 11 tourists died in February 2011 when their boat sank in the pre-dawn. As upset as I am I guess its better safe than sorry.

So our whole trip is kind of thrown upside down and now we're scrambling to figure out what to do in Hanoi for the next two days.

There are worse travesties in life. We'll survive :)
